Can Only Get Blue Smartboard Screen on Projector

  • #1

    Projector issue

One of our classes has a Sanyo PLC-EX31 projector. A few weeks ago the projector shut down and the warning light was luminated. I shut down the projector and switched it off at the mains as per the manual.

Yesterday the teacher called me to take a look at the smartboard which is lit in a shade of blue from the lamp. I've checked the lamp settings and it's on 1489 hours.

As I'm new to this, I'm guessing that the lamp is going to need replacing although at no stage have we had a warning that the lamp life was coming to an end.

Does anyone know what the problem might be? Budgets are tight so I will need to know whether to purchase a new projector as I believe the cost of the bulbs is nearly as much as a new projector.

    Any help please

I may be wrong, but most projectors are not smart enough to tell you when their life is coming to an end - it just uses a simple lamp counter to let you know. If the bulb deteriorates sooner than expected the projector has no way to know this and inform you.

We had a problem at my previous school where dirt was being tread into the carpet, drying, and then being inhaled in the projector when kids stamped their feet etc (thus knocking the dirt up into the air in a dust form). Caused havoc for the projectors and we were constantly sending them for optical cleans. Most of them needed their prism changing or something though, which was additional. When they came back though they were like new!

If you have a blue tint [ say in one of the corners ] - it's normally the prism. Cheaper to get a new projector.

Do you mean there is nothing but blue, or a blue tinge to the picture? If the latter, although the projector is the most likely fault as it has shut down, try plugging a known good monitor lead into the input. I've had quite a few instances where a break in the lead has resulted in blue (or other) casts on the screen. Damn sight cheaper to fix if you're lucky enough for this to be the problem!

You are a genius LeMarchand!! The monitor cable had come slightly adrift from the socket. Connected it and projector working again Thank you so much for that, I didn't even think to check the cables but will know for next time!

try cleaning the filter if it has one might stop the sudden shut down and warning lights.

It sounds like overheating, it may need a deepclean that is a dismantle and clean then rebuild cost should be around 70

Most projectors are repairable as long as the lamp has not been over run.
